Alfred George Bay
Alfred has worked in the trades since his early teens and as a Licensed General Contractor since 1986. He holds a Master of Architecture Degree from the University of California, Berkeley where he studied (and later worked with) Christopher Alexander, Hajo Neiss, and Gary Black of the Center for Environmental Structure.
His thesis “Dream of the Blue Window: Concretization of Life World Change. Transition as Generative Cause for House Remodeling.” Was excerpted in the Environmental & Architectural Phenomenology Journal.
Over the years he has torn apart hundreds of buildings and put most of them back together better than he found them. In the process he gained a reputation with his peers for pragmatic but innovative solutions to the structural and logistical challenges that bedevil work with old buildings. But at heart, his ambition has always been to make great places for people to live in wherever they are and whatever stage of life they are in.
He is on the Board of Directors of Palo Alto Senior Housing Corporation where he co-chairs the Facilities Committee and is deeply engage in the $15 million rehabilitation of Adalai Stevenson House, a 120-unit low-income senior housing complex.
Alfred is a member of NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry), and a member of EDRA (Environmental Design Research Association).
Olivia Kuser
Olivia is a garden designer and previously ran her own house painting and decorating business. She holds a BA (magna cum laude) in Art History from Vassar College with a specialty in Garden Design, and a B. A. in Studio Art from California State University, San Francisco. She has also studied Horticulture at the high-respected Merritt College (Oakland) program.
As a landscape artist, specializing in SF Bay marshscapes, she has exhibited widely. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Anton Ulrich Herzog Museum in Braunschweig, and San Francisco State University among others. You may see her work at oliviakuser.com.
Olivia is a member of the California Native Plant Society and of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers. She worked for years as a painting contractor.
Mark MacDonald
Mark , a Menlo Park native is founder and principal of Home Heroes, specializing is residential remodeling in the mid-Peninsula area. He is in charge of construction and site for Elder Friendly Renovations. He has collaborated on almost every major project of Alfred’s since 1986 when they remodeled Printer’s Inc Coffee bar.
